With five wins from five in the league and eight from nine in all competitions, it is safe to say that Atletico Madrid are in great form. After a slightly wobbly start to their title defence, the reigning champions are within touching distance of top spot and are back in the hunt for a second successive domestic crown.
A win here could lift Atleti to the top of the table, should other results go their way. This should be more than enough motivation for Los Colchoneros and they will smell blood with the visit of a beleaguered Real Sociedad.
Jagoba Arrasate became the third coach in the Primera Division this season to be given his marching orders. After guiding La Real to seventh last term and European football, Arrasate leaves the side lying in 19th place. A defeat here and they could hit rock bottom, quite literally.
Despite their horrid campaign to date, strangely La Real's only win this season came against Atletico's biggest rivals, Real Madrid. It perhaps shows that though they are playing poorly. There is the quality and capacity within the side to lift their game and topple the very best.
