Leaving Stamford Bridge was perhaps the best option for the Spaniard who was warming the bench at the club and a player of his caliber should be starting.
Not playing regular football has put Mata’s world cup place with the national side in doubt.
Moreover, the former Valencia star has not been able to impress at Manchester United instantly and inevitably he has suffered the axe from Spain.
Having signed for a club record fee, Juan Mata has failed to find top form and Vicente Del Bosque has not included him in the squad that will face Italy in midweek.
The Spanish manager claimed:
“This is a list only for the match against Italy,” “It doesn’t mean anything for Brazil 2014.”
Understandable, but it is time for Man United star to fear the worst as if things do not change then he is likely to miss the World Cup.
The biggest problem is that he is playing under a manager who really does not know how to utilize Mata and where his best starting place is.
Inevitably, Mata is unable to influence the game and create alot of chances as he has been doing for the past two years.
Spain has got more than a few quality attacking midfielders and it will come as no surprise if Mata does not make it to Brazil if his form does not improve significantly.
