Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Nabil Fekir from Lyon during the ongoing transfer window. The France international was heavily tipped to seal a move to Liverpool earlier this month but the deal fell through at the final hurdle after the Reds had concerns over the attacker’s right knee.
Since then, Lyon have declared that the playmaker would be staying with the club for the 2018/19 season but this has not quite ceased the speculation over the 24-year-old’s future. According to Le Progres, United are said to have joined the pursuit of the Frenchman and they have already held talks with the player’s entourage regarding a summer move.
United were offensively better under Jose Mourinho during his second season in charge last term but there were still concerns regarding the right-wing role where none of their players seemed to fit in.
The likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were used in the position at some stage of the campaign but none of them could convince Mourinho into cementing the role.
As such, Mourinho appears to have stepped up the club’s pursuit of a new right-sided winger for the summer but it is yet to be seen whether Fekir is the prime target on the Portuguese’s wishlist.
Mourinho has previously held a keen interest in securing the signature of Willian from Chelsea and Fekir could yet drop from the United radar, should the Brazilian be made available during the ongoing transfer window.
Unlike Fekir, Willian has vast experience plying his trade in the Premier League and he could instantly slot into the right side of the attack, where United lacked the required creativity over the course of the 2017/18 season.
