Luke Shaw planning Old Trafford exit after fresh Mourinho criticism

England international Luke Shaw is prepared to end his association with Manchester United during the summer after receiving fresh criticism from manager Jose Mourinho in the aftermath of the Red Devils’ 2-0 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup.
The 22-year-old has received limited gametime since the Portuguese’s appointment as the club’s head coach in 2016, and over this period, he has received plenty of stick for his poor attitude and work-rate on the playing field.
Shaw earned a much-needed start ahead of Ashley Young during the FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton on Saturday night, but he managed to last for only 45 minutes before the latter was brought on.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho clarified that the decision was tactical because both the Englishman and Antonio Valencia had failed to follow the necessary instructions on the field.
Despite this, Shaw was the one to sacrifice his position with skipper Valencia managing to escape the axe, owing to his better positioning during the first period against Chris Hughton’s men.
According to BBC Sport, Shaw was not impressed with Mourinho’s critical comments following the Seagulls game, and he is apparently said to be upset alongside several members who are close to him.
Shaw is presently contracted to the Red Devils until the summer of 2019 after the club managed to trigger a 12-month extension clause on his existing deal, but it now appears that he could be off the club’s books during the off-season.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have previously been credited with an interest in the former Southampton graduate, as per The Mirror, as they seek to finalise a possible cut-price move for the left-back.
Meanwhile, there has also been talk of Shaw sealing a reunion (The Sun) with ex-Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur in a potential part-exchange deal involving Danny Rose, who has dropped out of favour since his summer antics.
