Arsenal fought hard to earn a point against Chelsea in the Premier League last night but now, the Gunners are five points behind Liverpool, who occupy the final CL qualification spot.
The North Londoners need to strengthen their squad in the winter transfer window and as far as the transfer activity is concerned, Arsenal are close to securing their first signing.
According to reports (The Guardian), Arsenal are set to sign Greek international and Pas Giannina defender Konstantinos Mavropanos for a fee worth 2.1 million euros ($2.5million).

After the game against the Blues, even Arsene Wenger confirmed that the 20-year-old would be signing for the Gunners but he will not play for them and will be immediately loaned out (ESPN). Asked about the deal after the Chelsea game, the French boss stated:
“Yes but he’s not ready to play for us, we’ll give him out on loan.”
Mavropanos is considered as one of the best young defenders in Greek football and this season, he has so far scored 3 goals in 14 league appearances.
Defenders have been inconsistent for Arsenal this season and in all fairness, Wenger must lure a proven quality star to strengthen the back line this month.
