Liverpool are looking to improve their midfield department in the summer transfer window and the likes of Naby Keita and Cesc Fabregas are in the focus.
Earlier in the day, we covered a report (via Express) claiming that Klopp is ready to secure the signing of Fabregas from Chelsea this summer.
In all fairness, the Spanish international is past his best and the Merseysiders should forget about signing him. Instead Liverpool have to agree a new deal with someone, who is in top form and is entering his peak years. The player in discussion is none other than German international Emre Can.
Back in March, it was reported (Liverpool Echo) that the former Bayer Leverkusen star is demanding a deal worth £100,000-a-week ($129,000-a-week – $6.7million-a-year) but the Reds were not convinced that he is worth that sum.
However, in the past month or so, the 23-year-old versatile midfielder has stepped up and proved that he deserves to earn the above mentioned wage by performing brilliantly during this key part of the campaign with Liverpool chasing Champions League football.
The Kaiser scored an acrobatic winner against Watford on Monday night when Liverpool found it hard to create chances.
He has been inconsistent and was rightly criticized as well. Emre has taken the criticism positively and has bounced back in style. In the absence of captain Jordan Henderson, Can has impressed with his box to box displays and his tireless efforts have pushed Liverpool closer to a finish in the top 3.
Can has a a lot of potential and will only improve in the years to come. Therefore, Liverpool should not waste time and must agree a fresh contract with him. If someone as inconsistent as Lovren can get around £100,000-a-week then it would be baffling if the Reds do not accept Emre’s demands.
