After back to back draws, Manchester United are no longer in pole position to finish in the top four and Liverpool’s victory over Watford last night has made things even harder for the Red Devils.
It will be fair to say that now, United’s best chance of qualifying for the Champions League is by winning the Europa League.
The Old Trafford club need to improve the quality of their squad this summer and if reports in the media are anything to go by then James Rodriguez is close to joining Manchester United.
Few days back, we covered a report (via Diario Gol) claiming that Rodriguez’s agent Mendes already has an agreement in place to seal his Man United move. More recently, it was reported (via Don Balon) that Florentino Perez has already closed a deal with United that sees James move to Old Trafford and De Gea would join Madrid.
The 25-year-old attacker’s current contract with Real will expire in 2019 and he is earning around £185,000-a-week (Star). The question is, where will he line up in United’s attack.
The Colombian international can play anywhere in the attacking third but mainly, he is a central attacking midfielder, deployed behind the center forward.
Mourinho has mainly used a lone striker formation over the years and at United, he has preferred a 4-2-3-1 setup.
Record signing Pogba has at times played in the No.10 role behind the striker this season but after the arrival of James, we can expect the French international to start in the center of the park.
