Liverpool already have a top quality attack but they do need a top striker and a playmaker this summer to improve the squad depth.
Recent reports (via Mirror) have suggested that the Reds are interested in signing Real Madrid star James Rodriguez. However, Klopp must look to ignore the Colombian international and have to focus on luring Thomas Lemar of Monaco.
James was the top scorer in the 2014 World Cup, however, since then, he has been inconsistent and mainly warms the bench for Real Madrid.
Last season, Rodriguez could only start 17 league games. This season, his situation has been even worse as he has only started 7 league games under the management of French boss Zinedine Zidane. Moreover, he has missed 8 games due to injury as well.
James’ troubles have been somewhat similar to that of Mario Gotze (apart from the metabolic disorder), who was linked with a move to Anfield last summer but Liverpool did better by signing Sadio Mane instead. The Senegalese attacker has been their best player so far this season.
Similarly, the Reds must sign someone who has been consistent and not injury prone and Thomas Lemar perfectly fits the bill.
The Merseysiders were interested in luring the 21-year-old playmaker last summer (via Talksport via L’Equipe) and now even Barcelona have taken note of his qualities and want to secure his signature (L’Equipe).
The Les Bleus star attacker can effectively play on either flank but prefers to play on the left hand side of the attack. This season, in 35 starts, the €44milllion rated (CIES) star has directly contributed in 21 goals (11 goals and 10 assists).
In your opinion, should Liverpool sign Lemar or Rodriguez?
