After a disappointing defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur have bounced back with back to back league wins.
Yesterday, the North Londoners were not as impressive as they were against Stoke City but still earned the all important three points against an in form Everton side.
Spurs are still second in the table for the time being but they will lose the spot if Manchester City beat the Potters in the midweek contest.
After the victory against the Toffees, star defender Jan Vertonghen claimed (Spurs Twitter) that his team mates have been teasing him for not scoring a goal. The Belgian star stated:
“They’ve been making fun of me for not scoring and I thought today might be my day but my goals will come!”
Well, the players rightly joke about the 29-year-old’s inability to score because he has not netted a single goal in a very very long time. Last season, he played 33 games and could not score a goal. This season, he has featured in 29 games but again, no goal.
Overall, Vertonghen has scored 9 goals for Tottenham, however, he scored his last goal for the club back in January 2015 in a 2-1 win over Sunderland at White Hart Lane.
As long as Jan plays brilliant at the back, the fans will not mind him failing in front of goal. Next up, Spurs will face Millwall in the FA Cup. Can Vertonghen break his duck next weekend? We shall see.
