Liverpool have already conceded 18 goals in 14 Premier League games this season and that is the worst defensive record among the top eight teams.
The Reds need to sort out their defense and must secure the signing of a top quality defensive midfielder. One such player in the limelight is Inter Milan star Kondogbia.
The Merseysiders have been linked with the 23-year-old French midfielder for quite some time. Back in October, there were reports indicating that Liverpool moved forward to sign him on loan (via WebCalcio).
Now, if reports are anything to go by then Liverpool are clear to finally lure Kondogbia because the Nerazzurri have put him up for sale (Goal via La Gazzetta dello Sport).
The former Monaco star is a versatile talent who can effectively play in the central and defensive midfield.
This season, he has mainly warmed the bench for the Serie A side. He has only started 7 league games and finished 90 minutes in just 3.
As per the provided Goal link, Klopp is looking for midfield steel and now that the path has been cleared, Liverpool could sign the Les Bleus star in a deal worth 22 million euros ($24million) in winter or on initial loan deal until the end of the season with an option to buy for the mentioned sum.
Liverpool definitely need a strong midfielder who could provide cover in front of the back four and must act swiftly to sign Kondogbia.

It’s astonishing but no matter how long Liverpool know they have serious weaknesses they always seem to want to solve lesser problem areas! The last GOOD keeper we had was Clemence and we’ve currently got two who wet the bed at the thought of a cross coming into the box.
Then, for years, we’ve struggled against high balls into the box with CBs who just aren’t good at clearing an aerial threat – when added to the uncertainty that a dodgy keeper gives – yet today’s papers imply we aren’t interested in van Dijk!!!!
No matter how many goals we get we are always going to struggle if we can’t defend and particularly when other teams are aware of how crap we are against a high ball.
I’ve even seen some people demanding that the ultimate liability – Sakho – be brought back! Good grief! Lucas is woeful in that position but even he is better than Sakho.
No, in five years we’ll probably still have keepers who can’t catch and defenders who aren’t good enough.
Sadly, it’s the Liverpool way . . .
Good one Red Phil. I always like your analysis. I have always tried to figure out how Liverpool fc got into this debacle of average and below average coaches and players. For God’s sake, how did we even think of signing Sakho and Lucas. They don’t even deserve to be in Leicester city. Am yet to see a more skills less and frail Brazilian footballer than Lucas. At one point, we even had Jay spearing and Paul konchesky. Oh Lord, we need help. For me, I think klopp is good but overrated. He’s a good motivator who brings out the best in players but he lacks game reading ability and that’s why we’ve lost and drawn some matches we ought to have won this season. Why use a Lucas as cb when u av a Klavan suited to that position? Why keep sturridge till 85the mins at times when Firmino fails to deliver. Emre Can sometimes can be horrible but plays all minutes when Grugic is on the bench. For all I care, we have to average goalkeepers and Mignolet is the better one. He needs to get virgil van dyke to partner with matip and return Mignolet to the goalpost. A replacement for Mane , who’s out for about a month in January should also be considered if lfc is serious.
Well written Red Phil and Adekunle Adeyemo. more than 100% agreed.
Hope to see all this players in LFC this January ; speedy>Quincy and DM>Geoffrey Kondogbia with CB>Van Dijk or young CB>Jonathan Tah and Sule with the experienced and cut price LB> Sead Kolasinac.
Hence, LFC would not heavily depend on Mane and Matip for the team performance. Winning Chelsea and Arsenal but losing to Burnley and Bournemouth have definitely hurt Title chase. ( as base on current Stats both are too critical for the team performance ).
Klopp has a reputation for working with young talent.
In many ways, ( if Van Dijk is not interested in LFC ) then addition of Jonathan Tah and Sule would make more sense too.
Jonathan Tah and Sule would be a great squad addition, alongside the experienced Matip who made the move in the summer and under Klopp, they has the potential to become a regular first team star. ( hope to slove the high ball problems )
