Liverpool have secured the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum from Championship side Newcastle United.
The Reds have secured a deal (This is Anfield) worth 53 million euros (Fee + Wages) to hire the services of the former PSV Eindhoven star.
The 25-year-old Dutch star can play anywhere in the attacking/center/defensive midfield and manager Jurgen Klopp can benefit from Wijnaldum’s versatility. In such a scenario, the German boss can utilize him in different positions and in various formations. Klopp stated that the former Magpies star can play in five or six different positions (Liverpool Echo).
Jurgen mainly prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation. Taking into consideration that Firmino, Coutinho and Mane will start in the attacking midfield, Wijnaldum may replace Henderson and partner Can in the center midfield.
For Newcastle, Georginio mainly played in two positions i.e. left midfield and attacking midfield. Klopp might play him behind the striker but Coutinho/Firmino should be preferred.
Against stronger opponenets, the former Borussia Dortmund boss may use the 4-3-3 formation. In that setup, Wijnaldum may start with Emre Can and Jordan Henderson in the midfield.
