Liverpool are heavily linked with a move to sign Newcastle United star Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window.
According to reports (The Shields Gazette), Liverpool are close to signing the €29.8million rated star from the Magpies. The question is, where will the Dutch star start if he does end up moving to Anfield?
Wijnaldum is mainly an attacking midfielder, however, the former Reds manager and current Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has rightly stated that the 25-year-old star can play “everywhere” (Liverpool Echo).
During the 2014 World Cup, the former PSV star played as a defensive midfielder under the management of Louis van Gaal. Last season, he played behind the striker and also as a winger when needed
Moreover, the Netherlands star has effectively played in the central midfield as well and Jurgen Klopp may utilize him in the center of the park. As far as the attack is concerned, the Reds already have players like Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic, Milner and new signing Mane.
Therefore, it will not come as any surprise if Wijnaldum starts in the central midfield. He will likely replace captain Henderson in the starting XI.

I think Moreno does not deserve a chance in lfc squad.
What happened to the rumours of us signing Hector? Suddenly gone very quiet on that front!!!!!! Also, can we rely on Sturridge for a full, injury-free season, with his injury record, and are we DETERMINED to sign anybody but a recognised defensive midfielder when that should be our main priority?
Origi, Ings or firmino up front.
Can’t we get Ricardo Rodriguez…
What makes me really angry is watching our club being linked to players and not getting anywhere when it comes to signing them. Look at man city, chelsea, totspur and anybody else for that matter. There is no bollocks about flying in for a medical or he will probably sign before the end of the week or their has been a hitch or his club is not satisfied with the offer. No the first you hear about it is he has passed his medical and signed a 5 year contract.Zielinski,Pacic,Corcic,Teixera Chilwell Gundogan Gotze the brazilian guy from Benfica ,i could go on forever and now it’s Winjaldum(i wonder where he will end up).Frustrating is an understatement.FSG, when buying the club ,stated they would put LFC back at the top of English and European football. I for one will not be holding my breath.
It would be worthless that after all the signings, Klopp and the Kop fails to bring in quality tall left back like Jonas Hector or Ricardo Rodriguez. Moreno is only fast but lacks total defensive ability. We need Hector especially for his credit and record of preventing crosses into the 18 yard box and above all, he was Colongne’s best defender last season. Rodriguez is also very reliable. At this stage, considering the likes of coaches in premiership, we dont need the like of Chiwell who will need more seasons to grow up to the task. I wonder why left back issue is yet to be addressed hitherto.
Our transfer committee must only watch Liverpool games mainly because we seem to regularly buy players that scored against us the previous season . Mane and wijnaldum both did . So did Vardy and I’m pretty sure we were interested in him also at one point . Come on transfer committee can’t you broaden your targets a little better than that . I’ll be very interested to see how many premiership players that score against us next season we actually attempt to sign next summer
