Manchester United drew their Champions League game against CSKA Moscow in midweek and will now face rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
As far as Manchester United’s team news is concerned, summer signing Memphis Depay was not part of the starting XI in the last two games.
Manager Louis van Gaal may bring his compatriot back into the starting line up against the Citizens.
Vice captain Michael Carrick did not start in midweek against the Russian side. Expect the English star to start versus the Sky Blues.
Mata and Rooney should partner Memphis in the attack behind lone striker Anthony Martial who scored a brilliant headed goal last night.
Darmian should return to the starting XI in place of Valencia. Jones has proved to be impressive in the last two games and may keep his place ahead of Dutch star Daley Blind. Here is Man United’s strongest possible 4-2-3-1 starting XI vs Man City.

This lineup is totally weak because it doesn’t have a typical defensive midfielder. The thing is both Carrick and Herrera must start but with only that, the midfield can’t stand Fernandinho and Toure unless there’s a certain Schneiderlin attached to Carrick and Herrera. Schneiderlin is a defensive midfielder both Carrick and Herrera are central midfield operators with the later being able to oppose attacking threats as well. The formation you have there is not bad, but from tactical point of view is the worse. Trust me, if Van Gaal goes into this game without a typical defensive midfielder like Schneiderlin, even the Arsenal defeat will come to pass because United will concede more than three in the first half.
