Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Barclays premier league and are now 3rd in the table again for the time being.
If Arsenal beat Everton tomorrow, Gunners will take the third place back but they are in shaky form as well and the game against Toffees is always tricky.
The Red Devils had a mundane performance in the first half against relegation threatened Sunderland side.
Not too surprisingly, the worst player for Manchester United in the first half was none other than their record signing Angel Di Maria.
The Argentine international has clearly not been able to settle well with the Red Devils after completing his big money move from European champions Real Madrid.
Di Maria was significant for Los Blancos last season and was man of the match in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid. However, since joining the Old Trafford club, he has been far from his usual class.
Such was his performance against Sunderland that Louis van Gaal had to take him off to bring young Adnan Januzaj and the move paid dividends.
Louis van Gaal openly criticized Di Maria for his performance and claimed that the former Benfica man still needs time to settle.
The Dutch manager stated about taking Di Maria off:
“I want to win. I have to observe and analyse. We were better in the second half so I cannot say it was the wrong decision. We have to give him [Di Maria] time to adapt and lift his confidence again. He’s a human being and makes mistakes like everyone else.”
Perhaps Van Gaal must hand Juan Mata the start that he deserves and keep Di Maria on the bench for a while.

In all honest I am disappionted with Di-Maria’s game with man-u, it is just as if he was not the player I know with formal club (R. Madrid), but I believe he will pick up, he still need time to adjust. Di-Maria is a fine footballer, man-u should be petient with him.
