Manchester United were horrific last season and one of the main reasons behind their decline was lack of quality players in the midfielder department.
The Red Devils lost the midfield battle more often than not last season and eventually that proved to be turmoil for David Moyes.
It will be fair to say that no other midfield star was more ridiculed by the United faithful than Tom Cleverley.
The England international was thought to be the man to replace legendary Paul Scholes but he turned out to be exactly the opposite.
Frustrated with his performances United loaned him to Aston Villa this summer.
Since joining Paul Lambert’s men, Cleverley’s performances have been improved but clearly he is not the kind of player United need to reach heights.
The Aston Villa manager has himself claimed that the club could sign Tom Cleverly permanently in the winter transfer window by activating a clause in the loan deal.
Lambert stated:
“We have an option on Tom. We have not gone into great detail but he has played well. He was the one lad who was busy on Saturday, he has so much to offer.
“He’s a good guy, good pro and does everything high tempo even when he trains.
“Whatever happens in January will happen, the option is there but we still have a couple of months to go.”
The United supporters may as well be glad to see the back of him if he permanently departs Old Trafford club soon.
