Manchester United was the club making headlines across Europe during the transfer window. With what had proved to be a disastrous campaign under David Moyes regime, players from every nook and cranny were tipped to join the club. A few weeks into the EPL season and one player has stood out of the Old Trafford ranks.
The transfer of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid to one of the best clubs in Europe was dramatic. It was a tug of war between Paris Saint Germain and the Red Devils. PSG had to let go of the rope as Di Maria proved too costly. Fans and fanatics greeted the move with excitement.
What better way would have Louis Van Gaal welcomed the 26, year old than by making him don on the famous no. 7 shirt. Players such as George Best, David Beckam and Cristiano Ronaldo just to mention a few grew out to be outstanding players. I see ‘The Noodle’ will have no problem making his name known throughout Manchester and even the Stretford end.
With two goals to his name, he is proving himself to be a master class player. His debut goal came from a set piece against Queens Park Rangers where he shot a dead ball that went in near the far post where the keeper stood no chance of blocking it. He also assisted in Juan Mata’s goal with a cross to the playmaker only for him to tuck it in. Angel went on to become the Man of the Match.
His second goal was against Leicster City. Wayne Rooney played a through ball to Di Maria who was being flanked down in the box with two defenders to his side and the keeper. ‘The Noodle’ lobed the ball with his left foot, over the keeper and into the back of the net.
I know what many of you think, that its too early to tell whether he will become a brilliant player or be left seeking himself like one, Nani.
Di Maria’s engine makes him a great asset to provide balance to the forward line. He can zip around the pitch, giving defenders no respite, as he bites into tackles and fearlessly runs at them tring to work an angle for a shot or a cross. Di Maria is great at close control and dribbling in tight spaces.
The winger is definetly working his way to becoming a Theatre of Dreams legend. “Lights, camera, action!” as the Argentinian steps onto the stage of the most competitive league in the shirt of one of the best teams in Europe.
