Chelsea prepared to stick with £120,000-a-week goalkeeper

Chelsea have reportedly decided to stick with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the upcoming campaign after failing to find a suitable replacement of his calibre. The Belgium international has already entered the final year of his contract with the Blues and this has recently witnessed him linked with a possible move to Real Madrid.
According to The Star, the Blues have apparently decided against sanctioning the Belgian’s sale despite him having entered the last year of his deal. It is added that the west London giants have not managed to find a shot-stopper worthy of replacing Courtois in their ranks and they could now risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Courtois’ future has been a regular discussion point over the past year but the Belgian has previously indicated that he would not fancy pushing through a summer exit. As such, the decision to keep him should satisfy both parties, although the Blues could be hampered financially, should the Belgian continue with his contract standoff.
As present, the £120,000-a-week ace is on an extended break following his exploits for Belgium at the World Cup but he is expected to report for training before the Blues’s Premier League opener against Huddersfield Town next weekend.
Aside from Courtois, the likes of Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante are likewise on extended breaks and Maurizio Sarri will be hoping to integrate them into starting lineup at the earliest possibility ahead of what could be a testing campaign ahead.
Chelsea have endured a rather quiet summer transfer window and so far, they have made just one major signing in the form of Jorginho from Napoli. Aside from him, former England international Rob Green has been brought into the ranks on a Bosman to provide depth in the goalkeeping department.
