Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has reportedly decided to put contract talks on hold until the winter transfer window. The Wales international has been in a contract standoff with the Gunners over the past year and the saga now appears likely to head into 2019.
According to The Mail, the 27-year-old is not in a rush to resolve his future with the Gunners and he could take the example of Mesut Ozil by delaying negotiations until January.
Ozil was rewarded with a bumper £300,000-a-week contract in January 2018 after stalling on a new deal for the best part of a year and Ramsey is supposedly planning a similar approach to find a breakthrough with the Gunners.
Nonetheless, Ramsey has already been told that he would not receive wages anywhere close to that of Ozil and the Welshman is now said to be eyeing at least double of his current salary of (Express) £110,000-a-week.
Arsenal have found themselves in difficult situations with regards to player contracts in recent years and the last 12 months has witnessed the exits of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere as a result of the same.
Despite this, the north London side have refused to be held to ransom and Ramsey could be heading through the exit door in January, should a contract renewal not be processed before the closure of the winter transfer window.
Ramsey has started in two of the Gunners’ three games during the ongoing Premier League campaign but he has yet to contribute in the form of a goal or an assist for Unai Emery’s side.
Regardless of this, Emery has previously highlighted that he remains an important member and the Welshman should be guaranteed of regular gametime until January despite his contract situation.
With just 11 months left on his contract, Ramsey would potentially be free to discuss a pre-contract with overseas clubs when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the calendar year.
