Manchester United boss keen on signing £12m-rated attacker

Manchester United are reportedly understood to be weighing up a move for Xherdan Shaqiri who has been tipped to leave Stoke City during the ongoing transfer window. The Switzerland international had a good season with the Potters last term with eight goals and seven assists in the Premier League but his showing could not contain his team’s relegation from the English top-flight.
As a result, Shaqiri has already admitted that he would have to leave the Staffordshire-based club and The Sun reports that United are among the prime contenders to secure his signature.
As per the publication, United boss Jose Mourinho had kept a close watch on the attacker’s proceedings during the ongoing World Cup and he has apparently told his close friends about how he was impressed with the attacker’s performance.
It is added that the Mancunian giants could compete with Liverpool for the Swiss forward, who presently has an affordable relegation release clause of just £12m written into his Potters contract.
The right-wing position has been a problematic spot for United over the past campaign with Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and even Jesse Lingard struggling to make an impact from the spot.
Anthony Martial has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit after dropping down the pecking order during the second half of last season and his agent has confirmed that the Frenchman may pursue a fresh challenge.
In this regard, Shaqiri could come of use with his tendency to cut inside from the right wing but it is yet to be seen whether his potential arrival may coincide with any player exits. The former Bayern player has scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in the World Cup 2018 and Switzerland will collide against Sweden in the quarter final tomorrow. Martial’s representative had sought to extend his client’s contract during the month of December but United never really showed an interest to the disappointment of the forward. He is presently contracted to the club until June 2019.
