Wales international Aaron Ramsey has admitted that he is unsure over his Arsenal future amid the delay in reaching an agreement regarding a new contract. The 27-year-old had been fancied to extend his stay shortly after his arrival for pre-season duty but so far, his representative has not managed to find a breakthrough with the Gunners’ hierarchy.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Ramsey revealed that he has yet to commit his long-term future with the club and he is unsure whether he would be extending his contract beyond the summer of 2019.
Meanwhile, the Welshman spoke highly about Mesut Ozil, who has been a wonderful servant for the club and insists the entire team is behind the German amid the recent criticism towards him.
Ramsey is presently the longest-serving player at the Emirates having spent a decade with the north London giants but the delay in extending his contract is likely to bring a sense of frustration among the supporters.
The Gunners have already lost a fan favourite in the form of Jack Wilshere after he parted ways at the expiry of his contract this summer and the club are supposedly keen on keeping hold of Ramsey, though they are not prepared to break the bank in terms of wages.
As things stand, Ramsey’s contract standoff could extend beyond the current month owing to the club’s pre-season tour and it will be interesting to see whether the Welshman would stay put at the Emirates, should there be no breakthrough.
Arsenal were forced to accept a mid-season deal for Alexis Sanchez last term after failing to negotiate a fresh contract with the Chilean but the hierarchy are supposedly keen to avoid a similar instance which may unsettle the entire squad.
