Arsenal in advanced talks to sign another shot-stopper

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to lure goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer. The 29-year-old has plyed his trade for the Bundesliga outfit over the past four seasons but he could now pursue a fresh challenge with Arsenal and Barcelona among his admirers.
According to Marca, Barcelona are weighing up a move for the former Basel graduate with back-up shot-stopper Jasper Cillessen keen on securing regular gametime elsewhere. However, their prospects of signing the Swiss could be dented by the Gunners, who are reckoned to be in advanced talks to acquire his signature.
Unai Emery’s side have already recruited a quality keeper in the form of Bernd Leno and it has been widely expected that the German will take over the number one role from Petr Cech next season.
However, this may not be straightforward with another new keeper at the helm and it will be interesting to see how this transfer story revolves, considering the deal could also influence the future of Cech.
Until now, there has been the suggestion that David Ospina may part ways with the north London club with Cech likely to fight for the number one role alongside summer signing Leno.
However, should there be another addition between the sticks, the 36-year-old may seriously consider his Gunners future, given he could become the number one with a new club elsewhere.
Of late, Cech has been associated with a probable return to Chelsea with Thibaut Courtois fancied to part ways with the Capital outfit. Aside from this, AS Roma have also been linked with the former Blues ace following their decision to sanction the sale of Alisson Becker to Liverpool.
Both Leno and Cech are likely to be part of the travelling party for the Gunners’ pre-season tour of Singapore. Emery’s men take on Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain during their trip to the Far East.
