Serie A winner insists Arsenal move is still being negotiated

Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has said that he has yet to reach any contractual agreement with Arsenal. The Switzerland international is expected to leave the Bianconeri on a Bosman when his contract concludes at the end of the month.
In a report covered by Sky Sports, Lichtsteiner highlighted that ‘nothing’ has been agreed with the north London club and the negotiations are likely to continue with the Capital outfit.
Earlier on Friday, the 34-year-old had been spotted visiting the Gunners’ London Colney training centre and this spread the speculation that he could join the club in the coming days.
However, this does not appear to be the case, as per Lichtsteiner’s latest comments, and the deal could potentially be delayed by a month with the right-back due to represent his nation at the summer World Cup.
As things stand, Lichtsteiner has 99 caps with the Switzerland national side and he could reach the century mark when La Nati take on Japan in an international friendly on Friday night.
Lichtsteiner has enjoyed the best spell of his career with Juventus where he has won the Serie A crown in each of his seven seasons in charge but he has still taken the decision to pursue a fresh challenge.
At Arsenal, the Swiss would certainly not earn regular gametime ahead of Hector Bellerin but the right-back is seen as someone who could offer the much-needed experience and leadership in the big matches.
The Gunners have often unperformed on the road against the top-six and a player of Lichtsteiner would provide the much-needed defensive awareness which has been lacking with Bellerin, who is more attack-minded in nature.
Arsenal are yet to announce any signing for the summer transfer window but there are understood to be close to sealing the signature of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
