Manchester United quoted £50m asking price for Bayern Munich ace

Bayern Munich have reportedly instructed Manchester United to ready a transfer package of around £50m in order to pursue the signature of Jerome Boateng. The Germany international has been with the Bavarian giants over the past seven seasons but the club are prepared to sanction his exit amid suggestions that his representative is holding talks with potential admirers.
According to The Manchester Evening News, the Bundesliga holders are prepared to accept bids from £43m for the World Cup winner and they could demand as much as £50m, should a bidding battle arise. Irrespective of this, the deal may not be straightforward with concerns regarding his fitness over the past few seasons.
Boateng has failed to make 30 or more league appearances in any of his seven seasons with the Bavarian giants and his recent struggles with a hamstring injury has been highlighted as the main worry. At around £50m, the German has been highlighted as a cost-cut option compared to Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld but Boateng’s arrival at Old Trafford may not be well received from some of the United faithful.
The supporters have already witnessed injuries which have hampered the progress of the likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly over the past couple of seasons and Boateng would surely be the last player they would fancy to bolster the backline based on his recent injury record.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how the story unfolds in the coming weeks with Mourinho keen on pursuing another experienced centre-back for the club. There have been no player exits from Old Trafford of yet but the signing of a new central defender may witness at least one departure to avoid potential overload.
The pair of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been on the firing line over the past year but there has also been talk of Victor Lindelof being loaned out for the 2018/19 campaign after making slow progress since his move from Benfica last summer.
