Manchester United are understood to be planning a bid worth £60m to secure the services of Willian from Chelsea. The Brazil international was recruited by Jose Mourinho for the Blues in the summer of 2013 and the pair could be set for a potential reunion this summer.
According to The Mail, United are prepared to retain their interest in the 29-year-old winger after failing with an approach for his signature during the 2018 winter transfer window. It is added that the club are prepared to pay as much as £60m in order to lure the attacker from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Willian has been a credible performer for the Blues over the past five seasons but his future still remains uncertain at Stamford Bridge with Antonio Conte reluctant to offer him with a regular starting role. As such, there has been an alleged rift between the player and the manager and the result was visible shortly after the FA Cup final triumph, where the winger edited Conte out of a celebration picture posted on his Instagram account.
As things stand, Chelsea are yet to decide whether they would be parting ways with Conte but the choice of sticking with the Italian could witness Willian’s exit from the club. Nevertheless, the Blues could be reluctant to offload the player’s services to United, considering they have already been criticised for selling Nemanja Matic to their arch-rivals last summer.
Willian has made 236 appearances during his five-year period with the FA Cup holders. He received nearly half of his gametime from the bench last season but he still managed his best-scoring campaign after netting 13 goals across all competitions. He has previously revealed the desire to extend his Blues stay beyond the summer of 2020 but his stance may have changed over the past few months.
