Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has reportedly decided to prove himself under new head coach Julen Lopetegui rather than pursue a Premier League return during this summer’s transfer window.
The Wales international scored a sublime brace during the 3-1 Champions League final win over Liverpool last month but shortly after, he presented doubts over his future amid his reduced gametime.
With this in mind, speculation emerged that Manchester United could lodge an attempt to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur man, should Real Madrid decide upon sanctioning the forward’s sale.
However, with the surprise departure of manager Zinedine Zidane, Bale appears to have changed his stance and the Welshman is now keen on proving his worth under new boss Lopetegui, ESPN claims.
Bale’s qualities on the playing field have never been doubted in recent seasons but he has succumbed from numerous injuries which have supposedly dropped him down the pecking order.
During the 2017/18 campaign, Bale was relatively fit during the second half of the season but he still found himself competing for gametime versus the likes of Isco, Marcos Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.
Nevertheless, he could have a new beginning under Lopetegui next season but he may not receive any favours, should he put in a couple of average performances at the start of the campaign.
Meanwhile, the news is likely to come as a genuine blow for Manchester United, who were aiming to seize the Welshman’s uncertainty in order to pursue his services during the transfer window.
United boss Jose Mourinho has yet to find a suitable player on the right side of the attack and based on Bale’s prowess at the Bernabeu over the years, he would unquestionably have been a game-changing signing for last season’s FA Cup finalists.
