Three things we learned: Real Madrid 2-2 Bayern Munich

Real Madrid progressed to their third Champions League final in as many seasons as they fended off the challenge from Bayern Munich. The German champions fought hard to level the scores in the semi final second leg but they eventually lost by a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

Three things we learned:
Sven Ulreich costs Bayern dearly: Ulreich has been earning plaudits since replacing Manuel Neuer in goal, but the German had a horrendous moment against the reigning European champions. During the early exchanges of the second half, Ulreich misread a backpass which he tried to clear at the final second without much success and this eventually gifted Karim Benzema with the match-defining goal. The strike ultimately proved the difference as Los Blancos scrapped through a 4-3 aggregate win.
Real Madrid march on to yet another final: There has been plenty of talk of Real Madrid being lucky but they have fully deserved their progress into another European final. Unlike some of their rivals, Los Blancos have had to do it the hard way by beating the French, Italian and German champions during the knockout phase and they should now be deemed favourites to secure a third straight Champions League crown in Kyiv.
Karim Benzema makes his mark for Real Madrid: The Frenchman has not had the best of seasons in the Real Madrid shirt and he is currently experiencing his second-worst campaign since arriving at the Bernabeu. Benzema’s selection ahead of Gareth Bale would surely have not gone well with a section of the fans but the Frenchman managed to repay the manager’s faith with a brace on the night. Benzema pounced on the poor organisation from the Bayern defence to head in the opener before taking advantage of Ulreich’s howler to score in front of an open goal.
