Jack Wilshere assessing Arsenal future amid contract standoff

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is reportedly far off from committing his future to the Gunners. The England international has just four months left on his existing deal, and talks over an extension seem to have reached a standstill for the moment.
According to The Sun, the 26-year-old is apparently ‘miles apart’ from reaching a contractual agreement with the Gunners, who have proposed a 25 per cent pay-cut on a possible extension.
The Stevenage-born ace is presently on a weekly wage of around £120,000-a-week, and he appears to be unimpressed with the Gunners offer, which surprisingly happens to be just half of the salary commanded by winter arrivals Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Wilshere started the season as more of a squad player as he happened to receive the majority of his playing time in the Europa League and League Cup competitions. However, with a hamstring strain for Aaron Ramsey in December, he managed to earn his maiden league start of the campaign, and has not looked back since.
Though the midfielder’s performances have not necessarily contributed in form of victories for the Gunners, and there has been plenty of talk over his fitness and work-rate, which has vastly improved as the season has gone on.
Wilshere is also reported to have undergone a full medical earlier in December in order to speed up the contractual negotiations, but it appears that the talks could go down to the wire until the summer.
The midfielder managed his 20th start for the Gunners (whoscored) during the League Cup final defeat at the hands of Manchester City, but missed out on an appearance against the same opposition in the Premier League in midweek with a minor ankle problem.
He is apparently a touch-and-go for the upcoming league trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, but with Gareth Southgate due to announce the upcoming England squad, he will be desperate to make an impression on the south Coast.
