World Cup champions Germany entertain Brazil in Tuesday’s international friendly in Berlin. Die Mannschaft settled for a 1-1 draw against Spain during their previous outing, and they will seek to continue their preparations for Russia with a positive result against Tite’s men.
Team News:
Emre Can has returned to Liverpool after failure to recover from a back problem. Likewise, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller have returned to their respective clubs after playing the entire 90 minutes against Spain on Saturday. Experienced midfielder Sami Khedira remains a doubt for the encounter after picking up a knee injury versus La Roja.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Lineup:
Joachim Loew would not want to make wholesale changes to the squad with the World Cup starting in three months’ time, and we are fancying Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to start once more between the sticks.
In defence, it could be more of the same with Bayern Munich duo Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng slotting into the central defensive positions. Fellow teammate Joshua Kimmich is likely to start at right-back with Jonas Hector getting the nod on the left side of the backline.
In central midfield, Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan is a strong candidate to partner Toni Kroos with Khedira’s participation looking improbable. The ex-Dortmund man has been in fine form of late, and recently managed to create a bit of Premier League history after registering the most successful passes in a single game.
With Thomas Muller and Ozil unavailable, Loew is likely to call upon a couple of uprising stars from the bench. We are fancying Leroy Sane to feature on the left wing with Leon Goretzka possibly on the right, whilst Julian Draxler could play more centrally in the number 10 role in Ozil’s absence.
Timo Werner has been the undisputed first-choice to lead the line, and we are predicting him to start against the Brazilians. The marksman will be keen to continue the fine start to his international career, having notched seven goals from his first 11 caps.
