Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Barclays Premier League by beating Southampton in their own back yard yesterday.
The Reds are now third in the table and only two points behind Manchester United (2nd), who lost their last PL fixture against Newcastle United.
Liverpool started the game in brilliant fashion and it took them only six minutes to open the scoring.
Star playmaker Mohamed Salah played in Brazilian international Roberto Firmino, who slotted the ball in the net scoring his 20th goal (all competitions) of the season.
After going behind, the Saints dominated possession in the first half and responded well by putting pressure on Liverpool’s back line. The home side did create decent chances and should have scored at least a goal but Karius made few key saves.
In the 42nd minute of the contest, Liverpool doubled their lead after a fantastic one two between Firmino and Salah. The Egyptian international netted his 22nd league goal of the campaign.
The Merseysiders were dominant in the second 45 minutes and Karius was mainly a spectator. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men failed to increase their lead and the contest ended 2-0.
