If Virgil does end up moving to the Etihad then the Merseysiders must look to sign an alternative.
Liverpool have been linked with another Dutch defender in the form of Stefan de Vrij and Italian club Lazio have been trying to agree a new deal with him,
According to reports in Italy (Tutto Sport via CalcioMercato), the Italian club are not confident that the new deal will be signed by the 25-year-old defender, who has received offers from Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. It is stated that Juventus want to sign him as well but Stefan would not like to betray Lazio and would prefer moving abroad.
De Vrij has played 33 times for the Dutch national team and was part of the squad that finished 3rd in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This season, he has so far made 16 Serie A appearances and scored 3 goals.
