More recently, the Italian source have claimed (press image provided below) that Mourinho was the one who initiated contact to sign Mario.
It is mentioned that if no player is involved then Inter would like to accept a fee worth 45 million euros ($53million), which is what they paid to hire him last year. Moreover, CdS have also claimed that United and Inter could try out a double loan deal which will see Mkhitaryan move to the Serie A and Mario to the Premier League before making a final decision on the permanent transfer.
Joao has only started 4 league games (11 appearances in total) for the current Serie A leaders and provided 5 assists.
