Liverpool and Barcelona have been interested in hiring the services of German international and Schalke star Leon Goretzka for quite some time.
Earlier this month, we covered a report (via Mundo Deportivo) that the Kaiser has an offer on the table from Liverpool but he has decided to join Barca instead.
However, as per the latest reports going on in the media, Liverpool are in fact closer to securing his signature.
According to Don Balon, the 22-year-old midfielder has rejected the offer to join the Catalan giants because he wants to move to the Premier League. The Spanish source have mentioned that it seems Goretzka would even have an agreement to join Jurgen Klopp’s team in the winter transfer window.

In the current campaign, so far, Leon has featured in 9 league games and scored 4 goals for the Bundesliga side. In the summer, he was part of the German national team that won the Confederations Cup under the management of Joachim Low.
As per the provided Don Balon link, Liverpool could settle his signing for a fee under €40million and Barca may have to pay over €180million to lure Coutinho from the Merseysiders.
Not to forget, Goretzka will be out of contract in July next year but hiring him in January should benefit the Reds because then they will be able to use him in the Champions League.
Schalke would not want to lose their prized asset mid-season as they currently occupy the final CL qualification spot in the Bundesliga table. We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming months.
