Since the departure of Javier Mascherano in 2010, Liverpool have not had a top quality defensive midfielder in their squad.
At the moment, captain Jordan Henderson is playing as a defensive midfielder but the England international is not a specialist play breaker.
In the summer transfer window, the Reds were linked with (via GdS) French international Kondogbia, however, the player eventually ended up joining Valencia on a season long loan.
Now, according to the latest reports going on in the media (TMW), Liverpool are once again interested in signing the 24-year-old star.

The Italian source have mentioned that Valencia have an option of signing him on a permanent deal for a fee of 25 million euros ($29million). If the Spanish club do not use the option then in such a scenario, Liverpool and Spurs are ready to enter the race to secure his signature.
Klopp has got a weak back line, which must be improved in the winter transfer window. Moreover, he needs a strong DM, who could provide a solid cover in front of the back four.
Liverpool’s defensive concerns have not been solved as yet, therefore, Jurgen should not wait for next summer and must sign a top DM and a CB in January.
