Liverpool have been linked with Dutch international and Southampton star Virgil van Dijk for quite some time and it will be intriguing to see where he will be playing when the transfer window shuts down next month.
We recently covered a report (via Mirror) claiming that the former Celtic defender has told the Saints that he only wants to join the Anfield club this summer.
According to former Liverpool player Danny Murphy, who is now a football pundit, the Reds’ main problem is the defense and he thinks that a deal to sign Van Dijk is close.

He told Omnisport (via Goal):
“Personally, [I think] the problem for Liverpool is more defensive, I think the Van Dijk thing is close. That would be a phenomenal signing.”
Last month, Express exclusively revealed that Southampton want a huge fee of £70million from Liverpool to sell their prized asset. This means that the Merseysiders will have to break their transfer record to secure his signature.
Van Dijk was brilliant for the Saints in the first half of the campaign but his season ended in January after suffering a foot injury.
In your opinion, should Liverpool pay the above mentioned sum to sign Virgil?

For contemporary transfer market, he is worth the sum. This is what big clubs; Real madrid, Bayern munich, Bercelona, PSG….. do to stay big, win trophies, develop and retain reputation. This is what they do to attract big players and prevent already existing ones from leaving. We already have some big names and if we do not start winning trophies they will leave and we will be nowhere. Please do not allow this to happen- pay the sum, we can recoup it from sales of jersey alone.
