Ozil to Stay – A Good Thing for Arsenal or Not?

Arsenal fans have been assured of Mesut Ozil’s future by the man himself (BBC). The 28-year-old German has been rumored to be leaving the Emirates stadium after talks to extend his contract stalled.
His stay will further improve the club’s feel good factor, following the signing of Alexander Lacazette, who made an immediate impact in the clubs pre-season win over Sydney FC. Mesut Ozil is now 10/1 to leave in this window. Fellow superstar, Alexis Sanchez is no closer to an extension and it seems that he is ready to run down his contract and then leave on a free transfer next season.
Ozil has divided attention since his move four years ago, as a section of the Arsenal faithful believe he is lazy and laid back on the pitch and another section firmly believe that is he world class.
Mesut, who was overshadowed by Alexis last season, is a classy attacking midfielder, known for his remarkable creativity and vision. At the age of 28, he has registered an impressive haul of more than 200 assists in his career.
The issue with Ozil is very similar to that of his team and that is none other than inconsistency. The German international shows glimpses of quality but also goes missing in key games.
Even when he was creating chances and providing assists for fun in the 2015-16 season, the former Los Blancos attacker went through a barren path during the campaign. He has never been able to perform consistently for an entire season with the North Londoners.
Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League last season finishing fifth amid calls for Wenger to leave the club, however, the club and players showed their mettle with a well-deserved 2-1 FA CUP Final victory over Chelsea, who were the more fancied side.
In 44 matches last season, Ozil registered an impressive 13 goals and created a further 12 as he helped the club win its 3rd FA Cup in just 4 years. Staying at Arsenal will help placate the fans who will hope that Alexis also stays as they look to win their first league title in 13 years.
The last time Arsenal fans saw an Arsenal player lifting the league title was the famous invincible season of 2003/04 that saw the Gunners won the title without losing a single match. Can they win the title next season? We shall see.
