After earning Champions League qualification, the Reds have to adequately strengthen their squad’s quality and depth if they are to compete against the best of teams.
Back in 2014-15, Liverpool could not even qualify for the KO rounds of the Champions League and were demoted to the Europa League. To avoid that in the next campaign, Klopp must sign top stars this summer.
As far as the attack is concerned, the Merseysiders have been interested in signing Mohamed Salah but now a new name is in the limelight in the form of Portuguese international and Sporting CP star Gelson Martins.
According to Daily Mail, Liverpool are interested in signing the 22-year-old winger and are in negotiations with the Primeira Liga side.
The British source claim that the Reds have concerns with the high price tag of Mohamed Salah. Their offer worth 28 million pounds was rejected by Roma, who are demanding a sum over 35 million pounds.
In addition, Mail state that Martins has a release clause of 52 million pounds ($66million) in his contract but Sporting are ready to accept a fee of 43.5 million pounds because they failed to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.
So, if Liverpool are not ready to pay over 35 million pounds for Salah then it is highly unlikely that they will be willing to pay 43.5 million pounds for Martins, who did not perform better than the Egyptian attacker last season.
Martins scored 7 goals and provided 14 assists in 44 games for Sporting in the last campaign. On the other hand, Salah scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists for Roma.
In your opinion, should Liverpool sign Martins or Salah?
