Liverpool desperately need to sign a solid central defender to improve their back line and they were heavily linked with Southampton star Virgil van Dijk.
Few days back, we covered a report (via BBC) claiming that the Dutch defender wants to sign for the Merseysiders but things completely changed after the news came out that Southampton will report Liverpool to the Premier League.
Yesterday, the Reds published an official apology on their website and confirmed that they have ended interest in hiring the services of Van Dijk this summer.
Virgil was in top form for the Saints last season before getting injured in January. He would have largely improved Jurgen Klopp’s back line but the German manager must now look elsewhere.
Last month, Daily Mail reported that Liverpool are interested in signing English defender Michael Keane, who was solid at the back for the Clarets last season.
In the last campaign, shaky performances at the back were consistent and the Reds ended up conceding 42 goals in the Premier League. With a strong defense, they would have had a big chance to win the title and Klopp must sort out the back line in the summer transfer window.
In your opinion, who should Liverpool sign to improve their central defense?
