Rodriguez has Agreed to Join Man Utd but Sponsors have this Demand

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are currently linked with two Real Madrid bench warmers in the form of Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez.
As far as the Colombian playmaker is concerned, reports in Spain suggest that the player wants to join the Old Trafford club this summer and he has already reached an agreement in principle with them as well (Ok Diario).
The Spanish source claim that the Los Blancos have given their consent for the move to happen but there is a small marketing obstacle. James is sponsored by Adidas and they have made this simple demand that Manchester United should hand him the No.10 shirt.
The issue is that at the moment, captain Wayne Rooney owns that number. As per the provided Ok Diario link, United will first have to resolve the sale of the veteran English forward and then complete the signing of the £185,000-a-week star (Daily Star)
The 25-year-old playmaker is naturally a central attacking midfielder but he can be deployed in any attacking position effectively.
Rodriguez rose to fame after scoring 6 goals in the FIFA World Cup 2014 (Golden Boot Winner) but unfortunately, he could not get much game time at the Bernabeu in the presence of star attackers like Ronaldo and Bale.
The former Porto attacker will largely improve the attacking department of Manchester United if he ends up joining them. In my opinion, even if Rooney stays, James should be handed the iconic No.10 shirt. The former Everton star is past his best and made no significant contribution last season.

  1. Simeon says:

He cannot just come to claim the no. 10 shirt without proving himself.
Besides, Wayne’s future is yet to be decided.
