Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has had top quality defensive midfielders in his teams over the years.
The Portuguese manager had the likes of Makelele, Essien and Matic at Chelsea, Cambiasso at Inter Milan and the likes of Khedira and Diarra at Real Madrid. However, he does not have a solid holding midfield star at Man United.
If reports in the media are anything to go by then DMs like Fabinho and Matic are linked with the Red Devils. Yesterday, we covered a report (via CdS) claiming that United have agreed a fee with Monaco to sign Fabinho.
As far as the Chelsea star is concerned, Antonio Conte is looking to sign a new defensive midfielder in the form of Tiemoue Bakayoko from the Ligue 1 champions and to accelerate his signing, the Italian boss is ready to let Matic join Manchester United (The Times).
The former Benfica star was in brilliant form for the Blues in their title winning campaign. He partnered Kante in the center of the park and directly contributed in 11 goals (2 goals and 9 assists) in 40 appearances. He earns (Star) around £90,000-a-week ($115,000-a-week).
As per the provided Times link, Conte wants to hold onto Cesc Fabregas and hopes that Matic’s departure will convince the Spaniard to stay.
Matic was a key member of Mourinho’s title winning Chelsea side in the 2014-15 season and he knows all about the qualities of the Serbian. The question is, how much cash will he have to splash to sign Nemanja?
Last month, Sun exclusively revealed that Mourinho is planning to spend 35 million pounds ($44million) to sign the midfielder. That sum should be more than enough to hire someone, who will turn 29 in August and has a contract until 2019.
