Tottenham are doing great in the Premier League but they performed horrendously in European Competitions this season.
They were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages and could not even defeat Gent in the Europa League Round of 32 contest.
Next season, Mauricio Pochettino will want Spurs to challenge the best of teams in the continent and progress to the KO stages of the UCL. For that to happen, the North Londoners must reinforce their squad.
As far as the transfer news is concerned, a certain German international in the form of Schalke star Leon Goretzka is in the limelight.
According to Mirror, Tottenham will go head to head with neighbors and arch rivals Arsenal to agree the signing of the 22-year-old midfielder, who is rated around 20 million pounds ($25million).
Leon has proved to be effective in the central and attacking midfield for the Bundesliga side this season. In 32 games, he has so far netted 6 goals and provided 2 assists.
Goretzka was arguably the best player on the field when Schalke bounced back from 2-0 down (second leg) to oust Borussia Monchengladbach from the Europa League.
He provided an assist in the first leg and scored a crucial away goal in the second leg. Schalke will collide against Dutch giants Ajax in the quarter finals of the competition.
As per the provided Mirror link, even Serie A champions Juventus are tracking the young Kaiser, who has rejected a new contract and Schalke are prepared to sell him this summer. Spurs do need depth in their central/attacking midfield and Leon could be a quality addition.
