Jurgen Klopp is renowned for setting up brilliant attacking teams and his Liverpool side have been fantastic up front this season. Still, the German manager is looking to further amplify the quality and depth of the department.
Yesterday, we covered a report (via Don Balon) claiming that the Reds are ready to break their transfer record and sign Real Madrid star James Rodriguez in a deal worth 60 million euros.
However, the Colombian international is not the only attacking midfielder on Liverpool’s radar and once again, German international Max Meyer is in the focus.
Klopp is a huge admirer of the 21-year-old Schalke star and has tracked him for a long time. The former Borussia Dortmund boss sent scouts to watch the young playmaker for German U21 side last week. He is keen and prepared to battle the likes of Tottenham and Everton to finally secure his signature (Mirror).
Max is a versatile talent, who can effectively be deployed in any position in the attacking third, even as an out and out center forward. This season, in 21 starts for the Bundesliga side, Meyer has netted 2 goals and provided 4 assists.
The Kaiser made his debut for the senior national side back in 2014. Since then, he has featured in 4 games for Germany and scored 1 goal.
Max’s current contract will expire in 2018 and his price tag has diminished as well. As per the provided Mirror link, Schalke rated him around 45 million pounds last summer but would now listen to bids around 17 million pounds ($21million).
Moreover, the report says that Liverpool think they can get his signing done for just 14 million pounds.
