Manchester United have to strengthen their squad this summer to seriously challenge for the title next season.
The Red Devils are linked with numerous top attackers and now a certain Belgian international is in the spot light.
According to reports in Italy (CalcioNapoli1926 via Il Mattino), Napoli have so far failed to agree a new deal with star playmaker Dries Mertens and he might break ties with the Italian club to move abroad in the summer.
The 29-year-old star is mainly a winger but this season, the Naples club have mainly utilized him in the center forward position and he has proved to be brilliant.
In 34 games (all competitions) for the Serie A side, the former PSV Eindhoven star has directly contributed in no fewer than 34 goals (23 foals and 11 assists).
As per the provided CalcioNapoli1926 link, Il Mattino have claimed that Mertens has been in a secret meeting with Man United emissaries to discuss a possible move to Old Trafford.
Back in January 2016, there were reports in Italy (Gazzetta dello Sport) that Dries will sign a new deal, which will increase his release clause to 50 million euros. However, he has not signed any new deal as yet and the current one will expire in 2018.
As per CIES Football Observatory, Mertens is only rated around $16million and that price will be an absolute bargain for such an in form attacker. Therefore, Man United must do all to secure his signature.
