Chelsea have been heavily interested in signing Spanish international and Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata for quite some time.
Last month, we covered a report (via Spanish media) claiming that Arsenal are favorites to sign the 24-year-old star, who is rated around 60 million euros (£52million)
According to reports this month, the Blues now seem favorite to sign the former Juventus striker, who is ready to leave Real Madrid and expects to join Chelsea next summer (Telegraph).
Unfortunately, the Spaniard has mainly warmed the bench under Zidane, who has selected him just 11 times in his starting XI.
As per the provided Telegraph link, Morata is a fan of Conte and the Italian manager wants him to replace Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge. Is he good enough to replace Costa?
The former Atletico Madrid striker has been the driving force behind Chelsea’s title push this season. He has scored 15 league goals, one less than top scorer Lukaku, who netted four in his last league game.
The Los Blancos star is faster than Costa, moreover, he is versatile as well and can play effectively on the left wing if needed.
However, in the past few seasons, Diego has proved to be the better goalscorer. He has scored 51 goals in 103 games for Chelsea. Morata has netted 10 goals in 27 games for Real this season and he only netted 27 goals in 93 appearances for Juve. Adding to that, Morata does not have what it takes to bully defenders the way Costa does and that trait is very significant in the Premier League.
In all fairness, Conte must do whatever possible to keep Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge next summer. In your opinion, is Morata good enough to replace Costa?
