Last month, the Reds did not reinforce their squad in the transfer window and struggled badly. Going into the New Year, Liverpool were Chelsea’s closest title rivals. Now, they are virtually out of the title race.
Liverpool are currently fifth in the Premier League, only a single point behind Arsenal who occupy the final CL qualification spot.
As far as the transfers are concerned, the Merseysiders need to strengthen their team next summer if they are to challenge the best of sides and be more consistent.
The Reds were keen on signing German international Mario Gotze last summer from Bayern Munich. However, the 24-year-old star opted to re-join Dortmund instead. Now, reports suggest that Klopp is ready to finally sign the £20m ($25m) man next summer and initial talks have already taken place (Daily Mirror).
Mario is a versatile playmaker, who can operate anywhere in the attacking third. He excelled big time for Dortmund when Klopp was in charge of the club. Gotze mostly warmed the bench for Bayern and is currently doing the same with BvB this season as well.
He has only started 9 league games for Dortmund this season, scored one goal and provided one assist. The World Cup winner has been out of form for quite some time and Liverpool fans should be glad that they got Sadio Mane last summer.
Dortmund have an overcrowded attacking midfield with stars like Reus, Dembele, Mor, Schurrle and Kagawa around as well. Gotze is surely talented but can Klopp revive him? In your opinion, should Liverpool sign Mario?

Certainly a risk. His last two years have been poor and, at the age of 24, that is not a good thing. Coming to a league in which the pace is even greater than in Germany would stretch somebody playing well so to ask somebody who can’t get in to a German team to come here and suddenly reverse two whole years of decline and poor play is quite some ask. If it worked he’d be a superb buy but I’d want to get him for less than £20m – on the basis of his recent form and not his initial, hugely impressive form of two years ago – which would not be a huge loss if it went pear-shaped and we then needed to sell him back to Germany for £15m.
No doubt he is a quality player, but the problem is his form in the past seasons. With the quality that he has, I think he has to take a look at himself and see why he could not break into the first teams of Bayern and Dortmunt. But to me it will be a risk buy.
He should have come last summer , maybe he get back to his old strenght with the manager who discover him , but for an Experiment he is too expansive.
I believe Klopp will revive his career at Anfield
