Manchester United need to sign a top quality defensive midfielder in the winter transfer window and French international Tiemoue Bakayoko is heavily linked.
Few days back, we covered a report (via Daily Record) claiming that Man United are interested in signing the 22-year-old holding midfielder and that Mourinho is a huge admirer of the Les Bleus star.
Now, sources have told ESPN that Mourinho wants to sign Bakayoko in the summer but may move for him this month because Chelsea are also looking to secure his signature as well.
Last month, the Times claimed in an exclusive report that Antonio Conte wants Bakayoko who would cost around 40 million pounds (€46million).
The former Stade Rennais FC midfielder has featured in 27 games for the Ligue 1 side this season and scored two goals.
After 19 league games, Monaco are just two points behind leaders Nice, moreover, they will be facing Manchester City in the Champions League next month. Therefore, it will not come as any surprise if the French side try to block all the moves for Bakayoko who has been a key member of the squad.
United’s DM Morgan Schneiderlin is expected to complete his move to Everton soon (Telegraph) and Bakayoko is someone who can replace his compatriot. Adding to that, he can be a potential long term replacement for veteran Michael Carrick as well.
