After Liverpool’s draw against Sunderland yesterday, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have the chance to go eight points clear at the top by beating Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
The Blues have a very strong squad but the former Juventus manager is looking for further reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
According to reports (The Sun), Chelsea have made the first move and contacted Ricardo Rodriguez’s agent as they look to strengthen their left wing-back position.
The 24-year-old Wolfsburg star is not only solid at the back but also productive in the attacking third. Moreover, he can also play in the central defense. This season, in 14 league starts for the German Bundesliga side, Ricardo has scored 2 goals and also provided 2 assists.
As per the provided Sun link, Arsenal have been tracking the Swiss international for quite some time but Conte is hopeful of securing his signature in a deal worth 21 million pounds ($26million).
Last summer, Conte hired Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina and has utilized him effectively in the left wing-back position in his 3-4-3 formation.
The Spanish defender recently suffered an ankle injury and might miss the game (slight doubt) vs Spurs (PhysioRoom). The Italian boss does not have an adequate replacement for Alonso now that Azpilicueta mainly starts in the central defense, therefore, the Blues need to sign Rodriguez who can surely solve that concern.
