Last summer, Arsenal signed a top class defender in the form of Shkodran Mustafi and the German international has been fantastic for the Gunners this season.
The North Londoners still want to strengthen their back line by signing a long term replacement for veteran defender Per Mertesacker and once again, Kostas Manolas is in the lime light.
According to Italian football journalist Emanuele Giulianell (WhoScored), Arsenal are close to signing the Greek international after agreeing terms of contract with him.
The 25-year-old star is one of the best central defenders in the Serie A and will be a huge signing for Arsene Wenger.
Earlier this month, Giulianelli covered an exclusive report for The Sun and claimed that Mourinho is ready to spend big and sign Manolas but Roma are refusing to lower their asking price of 52 million pounds.
Now, as per the provided WhoScored link, the Italian journalist has claimed that the Serie A side will now allow the former AEK Athens center half to join Arsenal at the end of the season for a fee of 47 million pounds.
Manolas will be Arsenal’s new record signing if Wenger does meet the above mentioned asking price. Current record signing Mesut Ozil was bought for a fee of 42.4 million pounds (BBC).
This season, Kostas has featured in 23 games for the Giallorossi and provided one assist as Roma sit 4 points behind league leaders Juventus.
