After average performances, Arsenal find themselves in 5th place in the Barclays Premier League and in form Man United are just two points behind the Gunners.
The North Londoners signed Granit Xhaka last summer but the Swiss international has not been consistent as yet. Moreover, Arsenal have badly missed versatile playmaker Santi Cazorla in their central midfield.
The Spanish star has been one of the most important members of Arsene Wenger’s squad in the past few years but unfortunately he has been injury prone.
Santi started the season brilliantly for the Gunners, directly contributed in 4 goals (2 goals and 2 assists) in 7 league starts but a long term ankle injury ruined everything for him and Arsenal have not been able to do well without him.
Wenger still thinks that the 32-year-old playmaker is a key player for Arsenal and the club are ready to agree a one year extension with him (Mirror).
The former Malaga star can play anywhere in the central/attacking midfield and currently earns £90,000-a-wee ($110,000-a-week) with Arsenal (Daily Star).
As per the provided Mirror link, Wenger also wants to sign an extension with veteran defender Per Mertesacker. The German international is the captain of the team but in all fairness, he is not better than Mustafi and Koscielny and should only warm the bench.
