Manchester United are very serious about strengthening their back line and want more than just one defender.
The Red Devils are close to securing the signing of Victor Lindelof from the Portuguese giants for €45million (via Record).
Moreover, reports in Portugal suggest that United and Benfica are not just negotiating the transfer of Lindelof but they are also in talks to strike a deal for Nelson Semedo.
According to Portuguese source A Bola, United moved in and initiated talks to sign the 23-year-old right back but Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira made it clear that he will not let another defender leave for now.
However, as per the provided A Bola link, the clubs are in discussion and an agreement could be reached in January with the commitment that Semedo will complete the current campaign in Lisbon.
Semedo is not only solid at the back but also productive in the attacking third. This season, in 23 appearances for Benfica, he has scored 2 goals and provided 4 assists.
He made his senior debut for Portugal in Ocotber 2015 and is yet to make another appearance for the national side. That could change soon if he continues to perform well for Benfica.
Semedo is expected to replace veteran Valencia at Old Trafford. Currently, the Ecuadorian star plays as the first choice right back under Mourinho. Not to forget, Nelson has a release clause of €45million in his contract (SW via O Jogo) and he is not going to come for cheap.
