Manchester United have had a strong defense this season. The Red Devils have only conceded 17 goals in 20 league games, only Spurs have a better record (16 goals).
However, lately, United have been facing a huge dilemma at the back mainly due to injuries and Louis van Gaal is now looking to reinforce the defense in the winter transfer window.
According to reports (Express via SportBild), Manchester United are closing in to sign Wolfsburg’s left back Ricardo Rodriguez in a deal worth $43.5 million.
The 23-year-old Swiss international has been a key member of the Wolfsburg squad over the past few years and will largely improve Man United’s squad.
Rodriguez is not only strong at the back but also adds firepower in the attack. Amazingly, the full back scored no fewer than 10 goals and provided 5 assists in 39 games last season. This season, he has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in 20 games so far (Transfermarkt).
With Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo out injured, Van Gaal has tried the likes of Young, Darmian and Blind at the left back position but no one has been consistent. Signing Rodriguez will solve that dilemma for the Dutch manager.
